Finely detailed and unused c. 1920s postcard of the ruins and ashes of St. Pierre, Martinique, which was destroyed on 8 May 1902 when the Mount Pelée volcano erupted, killing the town’s 30,000 people as well as other islanders who had taken refuge there. Although the city was rebuilt after the pyroclastic (volcanic) blast, it never regained its prominence and today has a population of only about 5,000. Published by C. Le Gamus, and a desirable Caribbean or pyroclasty collectible in excellent condition.
